Why Choose CEU?
World-Class in Private Education Group Europe: A 90-Year Legacy of Academic Excellence
As Spain’s largest private educational institution, the CEU San Pablo University Foundation boasts a 90-year legacy of shaping elite professionals. Our network of over 210,000 distinguished alumni spans healthcare, law, government, academia, and the corporate world. Today, CEU remains a top global destination, drawing high-achieving students from France, Germany, Italy, the UK, the US, Canada, and beyond.
High-Selectivity Medical & Dental Programs: Secure Your Career Launchpad from Day One
Spain implements a strict quota system (numerus clausus) for admission into medical and dental schools. Acceptance into the CEU Faculty of Medicine or Dentistry means you have officially entered a government-accredited training system for physicians and dentists. With a rigorous curriculum and robust assessments, the graduation rate reaches nearly 90%, offering a clear and highly achievable path to becoming a medical professional.
Theory Meets Practice: Immersive Clinical Training from Year One
Our curriculum seamlessly bridges deep medical theory with extensive, hands-on clinical exposure. Dental students begin treating real patients at our on-campus university clinic in their third year. Similarly, medical students embark on hospital rotations starting in Year 3, developing the clinical competence needed for independent practice by Years 5 and 6.

Direct Paths to Licensure:
Graduate Ready for Clinical Practice
Upon earning the official Spanish national degree, CEU dental graduates are fully credentialed to practice throughout Spain and the wider European Union. Medical graduates are immediately eligible to take the MIR (National Medical Residency Exam) for specialist training in Spain, or they can seamlessly transition to international licensing pathways.
Your Spanish License:
A Global Passport to a Lifetime Career
Under EU Directive 2005/36/EC, Spanish medical and dental licenses enjoy full reciprocity across all 27 EU member states, as well as Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein (EEA). In the UK, recognition is streamlined through transitional pathways and professional assessments. Additionally, bilateral agreements grant smooth license conversion across more than 20 Latin American nations. Combined with examination-based pathways in advanced economies like the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, CEU graduates gain access to a global practice market spanning over 50 countries.
WFME International Accreditation: Seamlessly Connecting to Careers
in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand
The CEU Medical Program holds international quality accreditation from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), jointly established by the WHO and the WMA. Graduates possess the academic credentials required to directly enter license conversion processes, such as the ECFMG/USMLE (US), MCCQE (Canada), AMC (Australia), and the MCNZ "Comparable Health System (CHS)" pathway (New Zealand).
International Pathways (For Medical Graduates)
-
UK GMC
The Spanish 6-year medical degree is listed under the GMC’s "Relevant European Qualification (REQ)" directory, allowing graduates to apply for full registration directly without taking the PLAB/UKMLA. -
New Zealand MCNZ
Spain is recognized as one of the 29 "Comparable Health Systems." Qualified applicants can apply for provisional general registration via the CHS pathway. -
US / Canada / Australia
Graduates can register for examinations via each country’s respective IMG (International Medical Graduate) pathways, including the USMLE, MCCQE, and AMC CAT MCQ. -
Taiwan / Hong Kong & Macau
Spain is a recognized jurisdiction under Article 4-1 of Taiwan's Physicians Act. Students who enrolled on or before December 31, 2022, or those who have completed 5 years of clinical practice in Spain post-graduation, are exempt from the academic qualification screening exam and can directly sit for the national medical licensing examination.
